Amazon requires certain items to be prepped for sale, because the item shouldn’t be exposed. This is good for you as well to avoid damage to the product during the shipping & receiving process.

Here are some examples of what & how to package products from Amazon’s seller website (click on the image for a larger view).

If you don’t plan to regularly sell items that require bagging, you can pay Amazon to do the prep work for you. They do offer prep services. You will pay a premium for them to do it for you, but you can be sure then that it is packaged correctly according to their rules.

I bought the self-seal bags (peel & stick) in various sizes, with the suffocation warning already printed. It just saves time & makes the prepping process very simple. These bags were great, covered all my different product sizes, and last a long time (I have yet to run out or need to re-order).

Labels for Plastic Bags

Amazon requires suffocation warning labels on bagged goods (clothing, soft toys, etc). I purchased bags which already had the suffocations warning. You can also purchase the stickers separately.

Boxes & Packing Tape

Box sizes will vary from large moving boxes for inventory being shipped to an Amazon warehouse (FBA seller) to small boxes if you are mailing products as an Amazon merchant seller (direct to customer). I did try to re-use boxes when possible if my orders arrived in good condition. If the box looks beat up to begin with, it’s not the best choice for sending your merchandise. New boxes are easy to find at any home improvement store.

Packing tape is one thing I found cheaper to buy online from Amazon! Amazon’s prices were better than most stores – probably because Amazon tends to be the seller & they offer prices similar to Walmart.

Label & Sticker Removers

It’s much easier to remove price stickers with these handly tools. I didn’t buy them right away but quickly realized what a time-saver these are – especially if you are buying clearance items that many have multiple price stickers. One of the best tips I learned – use a hair drier first to heat up any labels that are really stuck. The heat from the drier warms the glue & makes it simple to remove with these peelers without damaging the product’s packaging!

Merchant Selling

If you are selling items that you will ship directly from your home, you still want the item to look professional when it ships. This starts with the first impression the buyer will see – the address label on the outside of the box.

I write more about merchant selling here.

In the beginning I just printed on a regular piece of printing paper & then taped it to the box. But this looks a little to “homemade”.

The better option is to buy these stickers. They are easy to print on, easy to cut to resize & easy to stick to the outside of the box.
