Martin Luther King Day (MLK Day)
Martin Luther King Jr Day is a United States federal holiday that always falls on the third Monday in January.
It’s very near to, but not always on, King’s actual birthday which is January 15.
You might have vague images of his speech on the Lincoln Memorial when you think of MLK Day, but this day offers so much more than a long weekend.
Dr. King’s message as a civil rights leader & philosophy on social change is just as important today as it was then.
This national holiday gives us a reason to study more about the history of Martin Luther King Jr., but you don’t need to wait for this important day to talk to kids about the legacy of MLK.
